How to Set Static IP Address on a Netgear router?

Anie Morgan | July 5, 2021

Setting up a static IP address on a wireless device like a router is not rocket science. However, some users (especially non-techies) find the task a bit complex and need assistance for the same. If you are also seeking some help for assigning a static IP address on your Netgear router, then this blog is where you can find the solution to your problem.

By default, a dynamic IP address has been assigned to almost every WiFi router that connects to a modem or DSL line. This process is known as Dynamic Host Control Protocol. But, at times, users want their devices to use the static IP address to get connected to the network.

Various reasons could lie behind the purpose of doing so, for instance:

  • If you want to access the Internet on your computer.
  • Looking to share data between two different devices using the same network.
  • Need to make use of your PC as a media server.
  • Want to get access to your devices like NAS or printer in a quick manner.
  • Or, it is the demand of your router to use a static IP address for efficient working.

Whatever the reason is why you want to set a static IP address on your Netgear router, below is the guide explaining the steps to get success with the overall process.

Steps to Set Static IP Address on Netgear Router

Before you start the process, make sure you have connected your router to the modem and it is powered on.

  • Launch a web browser on your PC and type Netgear router login IP in the web address bar.
  • Once done, press the Enter key and a login window will appear on your screen.
  • Now, using the default Netgear WiFi router login username and password, try accessing the dashboard of your router.
  • Once there, navigate to the settings section of your device and search for the Internet option.
  • Selecting the option will reveal the Internet Setup page on your system’s screen.
  • Now, select the radio button resting in front of the option ‘Does your Internet connection require a login?’
  • Make sure you select the button to YES.
  • You will then need to head towards the ISP menu for choosing the encapsulation method.
  • Thereafter, enter the login username given by your ISP to the given field.
  • You then need to type the password for proceeding further.
  • Sometimes, a service name is also required by an Internet Service Provider. If your ISP requires the same, consider entering it in the Service Name field.
  • Now, go to the Connection mode menu and choose the option that best suits your needs from the list naming Manually Connect, Always On, or Dial on Demand.
  • After executing all these steps, as soon as you choose the Internet Address radio button and select Apply, you will be able to complete the process of setting up a static IP address on your Netgear router.

That’s all!

A Word of Caution
